Health Services

According to Missouri State Law, it is unlawful for any child to attend any public schools in this state while afflicted with any contagious or infectious disease, or while liable to transmit such a disease after having been exposed to it, (Missouri Statute, 167.191 RSMo).

Before returning to school:

• Students should be fever free for 24 hours without use of fever reducing medications.
• Students should remain at home until 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.
• Students should remain home for 24 hours after taking the first dose of antibiotic for an infection
• Students should be free of continuous coughing.

Here is what you need for school if your student has injuries requiring accommodations:

• Doctor's note explaining what restrictions are needed for school, such as an elevator pass, P.E. limitations, etc. The doctor's note should include an end date for restrictions. Please note if your student is in elementary school and they are restricted from P.E., they will not be able to participate in recess. Provide this note to your school health room.
• A parent note is good for 3 days at the elementary level and good for 1 P.E. class at the secondary level.
• Please see medication policy if your student needs a medication administered during the school day.
• If your student needs a wheelchair, walker or any other assistive device for mobility, it will need to be provided from home.

The Lee's Summit R7 School District is committed to providing the best educational opportunity to your students in order to keep students and families informed about developmental changes your student will go through as they grow up.  We strive to ensure their education is thorough while maintaining age and gender appropriateness.  

Fourth grade students will receive education in the spring of each school year that addresses their developmental needs as it pertains to hygiene and daily care activities.  Body odor, oral hygiene and a balanced healthy diet are just a few of the things that will be covered in their education. Fourth grade students are taught in a co-ed educational setting and the students will work with the school RN to complete a worksheet that addresses these daily care needs. Fourth grade education does not go into detail about the different developmental changes that are unique to each gender, as these will be addressed in fifth grade. Fifth grade students will receive education in the spring of each year that details the developmental changes your student will go through as they transition into puberty. Students are divided by gender into separate classrooms and view the developmental video provided by Proctor and Gamble.  Students will be educated on the developmental changes that occur during puberty and will work with the school RN to complete a worksheet addressing different topics from the educational video.
